Only drink yerba mate translate spanish11/25/2023 ![]() ![]() "Hierba" and "yerba" are two different words. I wouldn't place much importance in how a USA brand spells it. The word in Spanish is pronounced stressing the "a", and by Spanish rules of accentuation this means no tilde should be written in it.īrazilians also appear to write it without a tilde. Or maybe we should ask the native Guarani people! Afterall, it's their tradition that we are enjoying. I would love to get feedback from someone from every major So. And I did a search for products on Amazon (books and yerba), most do not have the accent. I have other brands from Argentina that do not have the accented e. :) In english, 'grass' is not an 'herb', however. It's true! 'Yerba' translates to 'grass', but our favorite herb is an evergreen. either way, it means "grass".Īctually sheet edited this topic ages ago. Plus, "yerba" is sometimes written "hierba". Rosamonte brand, which is Argentinian, doesn't stress the "e".Ĭonsider also that "bombilla" is pronunced differently in hiberian-spanish and southamerican-spanish. Originally posted at 12:58PM, 4 September 2005 PDT But I checked out some popular Argentine brands and they do not use the é on their packaging.Ĭan anyone shed some light on this? Thanks! There is a common brand in USA that uses an accent. Consider how people in Argentina pronounce "bombilla" or "yerba" compared to Brazil, for example. ![]() It occurs to me that people in different countries probably spell and pronounce it differently. I remember clearly, her hand movement in the air when saying "accent on the É!". My friend from Argentina told me there's an accent on the é when she taught me how to say the word and how to spell it. ![]() I have seen more than one comment that the word is mate without an accent on the e (thanks Giorgia). ![]()
